The incredible story of Robin Cavendish told in this film released in 2017, whose original title is "Breathe".
It is a Hollywood production starring the young Andrew Garfield (Spider Man, The social network) who plays the protagonist of a true story of the last century from Kenya.
Cavendish fell in love with Kenya at the age of twenty, during his military service in the Queen's army, right in the then British colony in Africa.
After returning home and completing his university studies, he wanted to return to live in Nairobi with his wife Diane and dedicated himself to trade and the sale of tea in the Ngong hills.
Here, in 1958, he contracted a serious form of polio which first caused him severe respiratory problems and then immobilized him up to his neck.
After a year spent in a Kenyan hospital, while the struggle for the independence of the country was raging outside, Cavendish decided to go out, breathing thanks to modern equipment (for the time being) and above all making a wheelchair for a van in which he would travel first to Kenya and then to England where he returned to live, and finally around the world.
Thus he became the most important lawyer for the rights of the disabled.
Cavendish died in 1994 at the age of 64, going down in history as the oldest polio patient who ever lived.
The film, based on the stories of Robin's son, Johathan, was directed by actor and director Andy Serkis.
