A charming new director, Betty Radier, and a new marketing strategy.
This 2017 edition of the Kenya Tourist Board has presented to the hotelier Watamu meeting yesterday morning at Kobe Suite Resort on initiative and managers Guido Bertoni.
After the meeting held last January in Malindi in collaboration with the advisor of the Ministry of Tourism THR, the Kenya Tourist Board had not responded in the same manner in Watamu and taking into account the diversification of destinations desired by Roger Jones, chief adviser of the Minister Balala , there would be no need.
After the indignation of the Italian hoteliers, and a further request for a meeting, the new director decided to meet hoteliers and explain how it intends to re-launch Watamu and the Kenyan coast.
The priority is undoubtedly let the world know the destination, regardless of Kenya.
Watamu Watamu with its peculiarities.
"You have to list them and enhance them all - explained Radier - otherwise after two times that a tourist visit, we will have enough and will choose another destination. Often even the institutions have the perception of the potential of a tourist destination."
But there are a few top priorities, that hoteliers present indicated and of which Betty Radier noted.
The international airport in Malindi, that does not mean to wait for the force extending the runway. We must work from now to have direct flights to hubs connected to Europe as Addis Ababa.
"Ethiopian Airlines is interested in Malindi - assured Bertoni - the destination and convince book places and working marketing you need only make it palatable. So could make other flag carriers."
Other priorities are the safety of the town (great work of WAC, but the local police for help is not enough, according to the hotelier), cleaning (KTB is asked to form a team for the removal of junk parallel to that deficit the County) and the problem of beach boys.
Radier has taken note of all and assured that will in large Watamu attention.
"I'll be your voice high with the Nairobi government - promised the director of KTB - we form a team together and send me your requests."
We hope at last to have found a reliable partner.
